Carlo Francesco Cesarini Complete Chamber Cantatas from Ms. 2248, Casanatense Library, Rome edited by Giacomo Sciommeri (Vocal Chamber Music, 4) Fetonte, e non ti basta, testo di B. Pamphilj, Soprano, basso continuo XLII, 78 pp.; 29,7 x 21 cm Carlo Francesco Cesarini (1665 ca.-1741), was a major figure on the Roman musical scene—leader of Cardinal Benedetto Pamphilj's musical academy, chapel master at S. Antonio dei Portoghesi (1715-1721) and Chiesa del Gesù (1704-1741), and active in other religious institutions. These works, set to texts by Benedetto Pamphilj, Giacomo Buonaccorsi, and Francesco Maria Gasparri, are located in a most valuable collection, ms. 2248 from Casanatense Library, Rome. They form typical examples of Cesarini's cantatas from ca 1700-10. Giacomo Sciommeri got his master's degree in "Musicology and Musical Heritage", and his PhD in "Cultural Heritage and Territory" at the Tor Vergata University, Rome. He received his 2nd level diploma in “Historical, Critical and Analytical Musicology” from the S. Cecilia Conservatory of Rome. His main research focus is on Italian chamber cantata. He is a scientific committee member of the Istituto Italiano per la Storia della Musica, the secretary of the Centro Studi sulla Cantata Italiana, and a coordinator of the "Clori. Archivio della cantata italiana" international project. He is Teaching Assistant of "Music History" at the Tor Vergata University, Rome. |
